Here's my take-away from this and something I learned long ago... personality and communication skills count for a lot.

Yes, we're all expected to do whatever task it is we're getting paid for - design, resume writing, etc. - but falling down on the personality and communication sinks more freelancers than anything else. (In my opinion.)

The interesting thing is, it's the communication and personality we have the most control over. And yet I run into too many people who ignore that aspect of their freelance business.

Good insights Mike. I've met some really cool designers/developers over the years, but some of them really struggle in dealing with clients - they fall down in the personality and communication areas. We've both been in the game long enough to know that while talent will get you far, it typically isn't enough to make up for poor customer service.

People always do business with those they know, like and trust.
